Keeping up the Joneses – Tobias with the St. Regis Houston

Introducing Tobias Rimkus, director of catering at the St. Regis Houston.

How do you think Houston is different than other markets around the country?

Houston is in my opinion a little more understated than a lot of other big cities. Family, enjoying tasty and familiar foods, and simply having a great time is what everyone looks forward to…  This is however not to say that Houstonians don’t know how to have a good time – Houstonians certainly do know!! Houston offers a great value for the price paid.

Best thing about having a wedding in Houston?

One of the very special things about Houston is the personal touch you receive from the event partners available. Houston offers a terrific group of professionals (wedding planners, photographers, florists, cake companies and more…) who truly care about their clients and offer a great variety of expertise – and all of this often times at a considerably lower cost than everywhere else.

What is your favorite local place to shop?

Barneys New York in the Galleria; Luke’s Locker running shoes & clothing; Caninos farmers market

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Difficult one… As I am an early morning person there is nothing I love more than a café latte and breakfast at Café Brazil. Madras Pavilion on Kirby is a fantastic little Indian vegetarian restaurant.

Where is your happy place?

Funny enough that is has finally changed, after living here in Houston a little more than two years. Central Park used to give me solace for almost ten years but I really learned to enjoy Memorial Park for a good run these days. My other little escape is driving down I-45 and crossing the bridge to Galveston and taking a deep breath which instantly changes your perspective on any given day… Starbucks and a good book always provide another happy place!!
